I am currently a graduate student at USC Columbia. I graduated in May from USC Aiken with a GPA of 3.885. I have a Bachelor's in Psychology but previously majored in Journalism, winning second place in California's state competition for Feature-News writing. I have a strong background in English literature, creative writing, and I am adept at Chicago, MLA and APA style research papers.
Experience
I can provide the tools and resources to allow students to successfully generate research papers or compositions in MLA, Chicago or APA style. I have a passion for writing and love the English language. I am the perfect tutor for those students who excel in the areas of mathematics and the sciences, but who may view the demands of writing assignments as excessive. As a non-traditional (older) student, I have provided assistance with research papers for many of my classmates as well as tutoring in English classes for students attending Midlands Tech. I believe academic specialization has created a divide between the humanities and science. I can help students recognize the interconnections between the two perspectives and understand how social attitudes and background assumptions influence scientific thought. Without the imaginative visualizations of language, science loses the ability to generate creativity and impact the world. Relevant coursework includes Reading and Composition 1A, Composition/Critical Thinking 1A and 1B, Introduction to Classical Literature, Introduction to American Literature,Creative Writing: Prose, Introduction to Mass Communications,Newspaper Editing,Newspaper Production, News-writing and Reporting, and Skill in Communication. In addition, during my attendance at Shasta College in California, I won second place in the state competition for Feature-News writing. I earned excellent grades on the intensive writing assignments given during completion of my upper level coursework in Psychology at USC Aiken. I received a 4.8 out of a possible 5 on my writing portfolio prior to graduation.
